Most military musicians enter as E-1 through E-4 and advance through the ranks. Senior band leaders can reach E-8 or E-9.

Tax-free monthly housing allowance based on rank, location, and dependent status. Ranges from $800–$3,500+/month depending on duty station.
Tax-free food allowance of ~$477/month for enlisted members. Covers meals when not eating at a military dining facility.
Additional monthly pay for special assignments, proficiency, or hazardous duty. Some military musicians receive special duty assignment pay.

GI Bill covers up to 100% of tuition. Tuition assistance while serving. Many musicians pursue graduate degrees while in service.
